What can I use to make some cheap picture/paintings frames?
I have some fairly large paintings I want to hang, but none of them have frames. Various sizes. What kind of cheap material could I use to make my own frames? Dollar store frames won't work. They're too small. Thanks.

- I created a really nice frame from poplar 1x3 with pine decorative moulding. I cut the corners at 45s it came out really nice.
- there are to many options to list here, but here's a few; find some old weathered fence boards or driftwood. cut or rout a 3/8" rabbet on the back and make a rustic frame. go to the mill work dept. of your local home improvement store and buy some chair rail. it comes with a rabbet already. that same store will have lengths of frame stock for a little more $$.
- At Lowe's or Home Depot, they sell white cedar fence pickets. These are perfect for making picture frames. Here, the 3 inch wide by 5 foot pickets sell for about .79 cents each. Obviously there are multitudes of material that you could miter cut and make frames out of, but the least expensive and best looking (rustic) are what I just mentioned.
