Where Can I Buy Cheap Paintings in Houston?
I'm redoing my room. And I want to put paintings instead of posters. But I'm not a big spender. Where can I find cool works of art for cheap?

- Art school. Just walk in and ask. Offer an amount you think is appropriate and wait for the stunned expressions. :0 Happy hunting.
- Have you tried IKEA, Flea Markets, Garage Sales,E-bay?
- I found going to garage sales or flea markets in your area, you can check your local paper, and sometimes resale stores like goodwill or salvation army! One mans garbage is another mans gold! You might find a great buy for a few bucks! check the local penny savers for garage and flea markets! Try Antique shows too
- You want to buy, I want to sell. :) I'm a mexican painter, living in Mexico, quite far from Houston, but I can ship anything. http://geocities.com/yakusokowairanai/venta/pintura.html The prices are in mexican pesos, (100 u.s. dlls = 1000 pesos aprox.) :)
- The Glassell School of Art has amazing art at their annual sale really cheap. I think it's in Nov. but call them and double check. Also, the Art Crawl through lots of local artist's studios is a great place to find good, inexpensive art. I think it's in Sept. And, of course, garage sales and flea markets & thrift shops.
- As a resident of Houston here are some ideas. What may be considered cheap for some person may be still expensive for you. A poster say from Hobby Lobby is $25.00 plus frame. An original art oil painting , even from Glassel may be several hundred to several thousand dollars depending on the reputation of the artist. You have a third alternative. To buy artwork from new artists that are on their way up. Go to Texas Art Supply on Montrose ave and check out their bulletin board. Many artists leave a card and are contactable who may be in your price range. Across the alley north of the store is the Houston Art League. They offer classes and some student art may be available which you could find in your budget or perhaps commission a piece. The Houston Water Color society is near by also. You can also see about getting a limited edition print on canvas called a giclee. These masterpeices are printed on special canvas with archival inks that closely represent the original works and are done in small quanties which make them very collectable.. www.artchannelgalleries.com is a website I would encourage you to check out. You can buy limited edition fine art gicless from world famous artists for a fraction of the normal gallery costs. Since it is a membership art group, though signing up is free, if you sign any one else up and they buy, you are automatically given 20% commision which you can pocket or put towards your own purchases. The company is in Dallas but all business in done over the Internet. I know the people involved and it is a reputable company.
