Cheap Paintings

Inexpensive Decor Help Needed!?

I have a horrible livingroom. It has dusty blue carpet. One wall is white and the opposing wall is this awful light gry/wht panneling. I can't paint or put up wallpaper or anything perm. I have a VERY fixed income so I need some creative ideas, color schemes, cheap ways to make it look homey. Also, some furniture ideas. I can't afford to go out and buy a couch or anything....and I don't want to just throw bean bags down....unless somehow I could do it without it looking like a college dorm. Please help!

  1. Watch HGTV!! About that wall you hate,Find some fabric you like that will tie into what you want to do. Staple it up on the wall, try to hide the staples between the wall and ceiling. Also try to think of what you would like to see in the living room, what style. Type it in on yahoo search under image search. Browse threw and get idea's. Rummage sale season is here and go to everyone you see. Use your imagination and find pictures with a bad frame and repaint it. Or an old wooden bench or book shelf, stiffen it up with a few nails or glue and or paint it. I found a decertive mirror and repainted the fram black, painted gold leaf over it,I found the same one on Spegel Home website for $85!! It cost me $2 pluse $5 for the paint. Good luck and have fun with it.
  2. Throw pillows are sometimes a great way to add interest and color to a room. Also couch covers, and you may be able to find one of those cheap on the internet, or try garage sales. Discount merchandisers also often have them at a very reasonable price. We have value city in my town, and also big lots. You can even sometimes get a throw to cover the couch that might be very colorful. Reproductive posters often add a great deal of interest to a room and are very cheap. The frames to put them in are also not expensive. Places like Joanne fabrics or really any fabric store, has many different ones to choose from. Good Luck! Also there are many thrift stores in my area where you can pick up some great things for next to nothing. Look also at www.betterhomes&gardens web site or any of the decorating magazines websites. They offer free ideas and suggestions.
  3. go to biglot...they have it all and its way cheap!!and not at all cheap lookin!!also thrift shops...good luck, don't be like hildy and put hay or moss or feathers on ugly wall.
  4. Craigslist.org is always great you can find local people selling or even giving away furnture for people who are getting new stuff and then its just a matter of who can pick it up... so imaine a free or cheap chouch and an inexpensive couch cover can make a great deal of difference... fabric for a wall covering can get a bit pricey... another thought would be to get a roll of white paper the kind they give to children to draw on and you can hang in simply with staples or some other form of mounting... and glue a wooden dowel on the bottom to weight it... its like wall paper but can be made into an art instalation you could use stencils on it with some paint or something in that nature its a matter of how artistic you can be....
