My room is going to drive me straight up the bright green walls! Cheap redecorating Ideas?
I'm going to be a junior in highschool, and when I painted my room green (THe color of the Ask Answer Discover header) With a white desk, bookshelves and celing) with all kinds of colorful counterparts, It struck me as a good idea, I'm kind of sick of it now though. I'm not allowed to paint it again though. So I want ways to calm my room down, and mature it, without repainting. Any tips? I don't have much money to do this either. So cheap is good! (The carpet is a pale creamy tan by the way, I had to keep that from the old decor.) I was thinking of taking out most of the colored stuff, and using a black and white vintage looking comforter, and putting up a black-framed mirror, black and white photos, and a few cork-boards for pictures, but that's just an idea. I really stink at decorating, and typically only find out I dislike something until I finish decorating. A program I could pre-plan on maybe? I don't know.

- Here's a virtual room designer: http://www.findanyfloor.com/VirtualRoomDesigner.xhtml You can try some good ideas there, but not with many accessories, its more for paint.... if your mom or dad are having a problem with repainting... try to convince them otherwise.... painting is one of the cheaper ways to go... get them in front of the comp. and show them the virtually designed room you made. Its so worth it. With a bright color like that on your walls.... its gonna be super tough to mellow it out.... try swaying them into letting you paint. If you still cant then try your ideas, the black and the white, but that will make your room POP even more.... to mellow it out add pale yellows (maybe a pillow - on sale 4.99 at target? marshalls? ross?) - lavenders, pale greens to mix in the wall color (that could actually work really well) I know its MORE green but it would totally help if you incorporated a mint color into your theme: ALSO you can get fabric.... the color you like, something mellow maybe even silver? lavender? pale colors, and pin it up on your wall.... that can cover up some of the green.... add photos, mag cut outs etc on top of it make a collage or something ya know? Im not sure! jsut some ideas! I sure hope this helps you out! :)
- If you have matching sheets for the vintage comforter, thumb tack the flat sheet a wall, this will give you an idea of what it would look like. If you have a problem visualizing what changes will look like, hang some different color around the room. The colors could be pillow cases, fabric, table clothes, colored papers - this will help you weed out colors you don't like and won't cost any money.
- I like your ideas of more black and white. Have you seen on HGTV etc., where they buy a huge canvas and cover it with fabric? You could buy a huge 4 X 4 or 6 X 6 canvas and cover it with the matching sheet to your bedroom set. It just will help get rid of some of the green wall. Or if you can't afford a big canvas, buy 4 smaller ones and do the same thing in black and white fabrics that are complimentary to eachother and hang them up in a row, or as a box design. Another thing that can take up some space is getting curtains that are larger than your window and all the way to the floor. That is another way to add drama and a different color.
- I think you are on the right track with getting rid of the colorful stuff . Black and white could work but with the tan carpeting I think a beige/brown or natural look might be better. The first step is to find new bedding that looks nice with your walls.
