Cheap Paintings

Kitchen wall color.... what will match flooring, backsplash, cabinets?

I'm going for a cheap, quick-fix solution to boring off-white walls. So I figured it would be easier and cheapest to go with some kind of country theme. I don't have the money for granite countertops, real tile floors, new cabinets, etc. My cabinets are solid oak, and the counters are white. I'm replacing the flooring with this vinyl: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=171376-84875-171376&lpage=none I don't have any kind of back splash, and I don't have the time or money to tile, so I purchased a faux rock-wall, wallpaper to go under the cabinets, above the counter, AND, above the stove and under another set of cabinets: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=180160910989&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=008 The curtains will be autumn reds, golden-yellows, and greens. And I'd like to add some rooster wall decor and other tuscan accessories. I'm lost on the wall color. I still want the room to be warm, but nothing like a bright red or gold.

  1. Sounds beautiful. You are doing a good job. I like white walls, but if you want to change them I'd go with a very light beige.
  2. maybe a yellow or even a beige
  3. I'd go for a sunny yellow. I think it matches all the things you mentioned. Besides: it's a happy color and, since it's not dark, makes your space looks bigger. Good luck!
  4. I'm thinking "red clay" by Glidden. It's actually more of an earth toned brown than a red. Earth tones are really popular in kitchens these days, and I think it will coordinate with the wallpaper & colors that you already have, and it would create the warm atmosphere that you're hoping to achieve. Good luck!
  5. I would stay with the Tuscan colors... a nice soft golden ocher or a soft green shaded down with gray... Go for the bright colors in your rugs and hand towels, a few well placed mixing bowls etc. if your using a border you can us two colors, the darker being on the bottom of the wall... I usually paint one wall a deeper color just for contrast...and don't forget your ceiling... the fifth wall as far as decorating goes! Have some fun! Good on Ya!
  6. You are doing a wonderful job matching everything up! I think it would look nice with a sunny yellow, nothing too vibrant. Good Luck!
  7. your counters are white & that could throw off your decor if you don't have anything else white since the counters would totally stand out. try doing the bottom or upper half of the wall a color that goes w/ both the floor & wallpaper, the other half of the wall white -- it doesn't have to be bright white.... mask off the horizontal center where the colors will meet when painting. then you can get some inexpensive chair rail to nail up which willl cover the line where the colors meet. also, roosters are not really tuscan decor...get some old inexpensive plates off ebay to hang......dried herb or flower bunches, etc.....
  8. I would put in inexpensive bead board to chair rail height with a chair rail molding on the top and paint it an off white or ivory to blend with the white counters (I am making the assumption it is NOT a white-white) A medium taupe or beige to tie in and pick up the color of the flooring and back-splash pattern. Everything else you described sounds like you are headed in the right direction. Whatever you do, could you post a picture of the complete room later? Thanx.
  9. How about a khaki tan? Terra-Cotta? Or maybe a warm white like a vanilla color.
