- Best thing on a budget is to buy a great coffee table book that has pictures you love in it. Carefully cut out the pictures and put in black or white frames. It can be pictures of anything. Calendars also work best. Add a large mirror above your couch or in the dining room and put the pictures up on the opposite wall! Also another great decorating tip that is so easy is to decorate with yourself! Put pictures up that show your family, relationship, life together! You can buy really cheap frames at craft stores or walmart! Good luck!
- Find fabric you like and cover some boards (like 3ft by 7) and lean them against the walls, staggered, then you can even put some lights behind them.
- Hardly anyone does this anymore, but family pictures! There are so many different ways that you can group them to be more interesting than just a straight line up and down. Tell a story on the wall through your pictures, one grouping your wedding, another for a sport if you played on after getting married, your little girl and the progression of her birth. I get complimented constantly on that in my own home. I loved going to someones house and looking at the pictures that they had up on the wall. Other people do, too!
- we had the SAME problem when we lived in an apartment. I bought 3 huge stars (one big & 2 smaller - I got them @ kirklands) and hung them @ a diagonal angle on one of the big walls. Then on the other I hung a wall of crosses. My theme is rustic elegance though which might not be tasteful to everyone. Also, a good idea to take up a wall is a big mirror. Sometimes you can get a good deal & they are ALWAY useful in any room. Wal-Mart I know in S. TX has the big ones for about $55 which is a good deal.
- The black and white ideas are awesome. When we were decorating an apartment on a limited budget, I found some amazing frames on clearance sales. With some black (flat) spray paint, they all soon had a common look. If you like country, you can even sand a little on the edges to make them a bit distressed. Or, clean lines work for contemporary homes. Besides, the white walls will work beautifully with the B/W idea.
- Look at it as a clean canvas. I don't know what king of furnishings you have, modern, country, whatever. . . pull colors from other sources in the room and add them to your window dressings, pillows and artwork. Don't let the walls be your focal point but find something in the room, your favorite thing and decorate around it. In my livingroom it's a picture hanging over a mantel. Everything else in the room compliments it. Do the same, whether a picture, a piece of furniture the windows or even a throw on your sofa, work from that point.
- Get a cheap Moroccan rug from a market and hang it on the main wall. it really makes a difference. also get some really striking, colorful curtains and pillows. put some shelves up. a really nice small cheap chandelier. and some candlesticks
- you can get a ton of good ideas on here and even post a picture, others will give you good suggestions! SORRY- the website is hgtv.com then go to rate my space!
