Hip ideas for cheap kitchen decor?
We just moved into a rental home and I'm in need of a new kitchen theme. The walls are beige and the cabinets are oak. Everything that I have found (roosters, apples, flowers, etc) remind me of old ladies.

- I had a dull old kitchen like that in one place I lived so I went with a 1950's "atomic ranch" theme. I stuck with turquoise, tomato red, harvest gold, mint green, black and chrome items I searched out in thrift and antique stores. Like the decor in these rooms: http://1950satomicranchhouse.blogspot.com/2009/10/better-homes-and-gardens-decorating.html There is even a decorating magazine now that promotes the style: http://www.atomic-ranch.com/ Here's an example on Ebay of a terrific clock in that design: http://cgi.ebay.com/Starburst-Spike-Clock-Retro-Mid-Century-Modern-Eames-/270708478236?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f077b911c and some cool mugs: http://cgi.ebay.com/Mid-Century-Modern-WHALERS-Ceramic-Tiki-Rum-Glass-Set-/260774995496?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb766a628 And check out this melmac dish set: http://cgi.ebay.com/46p-Vintage-50s-Retro-Colors-PROLON-Melmac-Dishes-Set-/290561331925?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43a6ce12d5 and this funky apron: http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Apron-Kangaroo-Joey-Australia-Tea-Towel-Retro-/280668014899?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41591e0933 It was very fun and funky to find things like "sputnik" style light fixtures and clocks, and wierd shaped melmac and glass dishware including a cookie jar that looked like a robot and flour and sugar canisters shaped like shubby rocket ships. My friends called me "Mrs. Jetson".
- I done mine with a TUSCAN theme with grapes, wine bottles, wicker baskets.
