My Own Online Photo Gallery ?

I want to create an online photo/art gallery but have never done so before. I do not want to use flikr or facebook or myspace. I would like to create an interesting webpage. How do I go about ding so, what are good sites, and what do I need to learn to do to use flash and the like in creation of a webpage for art/photo displays? Any and all adivce is much appreciated, thank you.
